Bikram Singh Majithia, senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader, was sent to 14 days of judicial custody by a Mohali court on Sunday. Majithia was produced before the Judicial Magistrate after the completion of his 11-day police remand. The SAD leader was arrested in connection with a case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Ahead of his court appearance, the Punjab police on Sunday reportedly placed party senior leader and former minister Sikander Singh Maluka under house arrest at his residence in village Maluka. The reports suggest that more than 12 police vehicles arrived at his residence and stopped him from visiting Chandigarh.

Maluka, along with his supporters, was reportedly planning to protest against the recent actions against the SAD leaders in Chandigarh. While reacting to the incident, Maluka slammed the AAP government by stating that the state government has seized even his democratic rights.

"This is the result of the government's open dictatorship and Nadirshahi thinking. We are not even being given our democratic rights," Maluka was quoted as saying by Jagran.Com. He further stated that the SAD leaders are being framed in false cases, adding that the AAP has failed to deliver good governance in the state.

Earlier on July 2, during Majithia's last appearance, many senior leaders, including Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, were either taken into custody or placed under house arrest. Badal, in a post on X, had criticised the AAP government by stating that an undeclared emergency has been imposed in Punjab.

"Bhagwant Mann has imposed an UNDECLARED EMERGENCY in Punjab. Akali workers proceeding to Mohali today for expressing solidarity with S Bikram Singh Majithia, who has been framed in a false case by the Aam Aadmi Party govt, are being detained at their houses & even being stopped at 'nakas' put up on all major roads. Such repressive acts smack of cowardice. It is clear that chief minister @BhagwantMann is rattled by the outpouring of support for Bikram," Badal stated in his post.

The action against Maluka was reportedly taken due to his popularity in his constituency. He, along with his supporters, was planning to march towards Chandigarh, reported Jagran.Com.
